Please join Dr. Goldie Peters and Dr. Erin Hennessey for a 1-hour CE activity highlighting selected new medications, all of which have been approved for usage by the FDA within the last 12 months. Each pharmaceutic will be reviewed for medication indication, specific mechanism of action, dosing information, contraindications, precautions, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, special administration techniques, and potential place in current therapy. This presentation will also highlight any special patient instructions or monitoring parameters for providers to take into account when prescribing these new medications (e.g. injection techniques, priming requirements, etc.). New generic medications will be presented, along with any updated FDA recommendations or recent labeling changes to mainstream medications.

CPE Credit: To earn 1.00 hours of CPE credit, please complete the evaluation that will be emailed to you at the conclusion of the event. Please complete this evaluation within 7 days. The CPE Administrator will submit each participant’s NABP number and date of birth combination to CPE Monitor for continuing education credit, no later than two weeks after this virtual presentation.
The NABP ePID and date of birth fields must be accurate for credit reporting to occur. Participants are encouraged to check their NABP eProfiles for receipt of credit within two weeks of submitting their evaluation(s). If a participant notices an error in credit on their NABP e-profile, they are encouraged to contact Nicole Fields at Nicole.Fields@uhsp.edu soon as possible. To best comply with ACPE's CE credit reporting policy, the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis is unable, for any reason, to award or correct CE credit if more than 60 days have passed from the event.

Medications are constantly being reviewed and approved by the FDA, as health care providers it is our responsibility to stay up to date with these newly approved medications. There were 53 FDA approved medication in 2020, 50 in 2021, and there have been 10 newly approved medications as of March 2022. This presentation will be relevant to all pharmacists to help them learn basic information regarding new medications that have been approved in the past 12 months. The presentation will highlight selected new medications to review each medications indication, specific mechanism of action, dosing information, contraindications, precautions, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, special administration techniques (when needed), and potential place in current therapy. The presentation will also highlight any special patient instruction or monitoring parameters for providers to take into account when prescribing these new medications. (e.g. injection techniques, priming requirements) New generic medications will be presented, along with any updated FDA recommendations or recent labeling changes to mainstream medications.
Objectives
- Identify new molecular and biological entities that entered the U.S. drug market in the past year (excluding diagnostic compounds).
- Describe each agent’s mechanism of action, dosage, adverse reactions, contraindications, and drug interaction profile.
- List special patient instruction and monitoring parameters for each of these agents.
