Using Hypertension Guidelines to Develop an MTS Protocol


This program is designed for pharmacists who are interested in developing a medication therapy services protocol specific to the treatment of hypertension in adult patients. Participants enrolled in this program should already have the MTS designation on their licenses or already have the ability to apply for it. This program does not meet the Missouri Board of Pharmacy's requirements to certify for an MTS application.
 
This program has two modules: a home study and a live seminar. The home study module must be completed and passed prior to arriving at the live seminar. The home study module is available following a complete registration. Instructions and handouts are posted under the "Course Materials" heading.   • February 5, 2018 or earlier - 100% refund less $25 administrative charge (Note, if the home study module has been completed the maximum possible refund is 50%)
  • February 6 through February 18, 2018 - 50% refund
  • February 19 or later - no refund

Requirements for CE Credit

To receive CPE credit, participants must complete an evaluation for each module. Evaluations are password protected - passwords will be given at the end of the live seminar. Following successful completion of the evaluation, an automatic report will be sent to CPE Monitor on the participant's behalf. Credit will be visible online in participants' NABP profiles - please allow up to 48 hours for the systems to fully sync. Participants are encouraged to verify their NABP e-Profile ID numbers and date of birth in their accounts prior to completing evaluations in order to ensure accuracy of CPE Monitor reporting.

Brief Bio : Dr. Peters received his B.A. degree from Fontbonne University in Clayton, Missouri and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville in 2009. He completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency in 2010 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in affiliation with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Pharmacy. He is currently an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. He is also a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Primary Care at the VA St. Louis Health Care System – John Cochran Division. His areas of interest and clinical services include: diabetes, resistant hypertension, anticoagulation, headache disorders and smoking cessation.

Rebecca Stauffer, Pharm.D.
Assistant Professor, Pharmacy Practice, St. Louis College of Pharmacy


Brief Bio : Dr. Rebecca Stauffer is an assistant professor of pharmacy practice and a clinical pharmacy specialist at the Internal Medicine Outpatient clinic at SSM Health- St. Mary's Hospital. Dr. Stauffer graduated with her Pharm.D. degree from Drake University in Des Moines, IA and completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with STLCOP/Mercy Hospital- St. Louis. She completed her PGY-2 Pharmacy Residency specializing in ambulatory care at STLCOP and the St. Louis County Department of Health. Interests include: hypertension and diabetes management and transitions of care research.

Brief Bio : Dr. Hennessey earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 2011. She completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with the St. Louis College of Pharmacy/Mercy Hospital St. Louis in St. Louis, Missouri and a PGY2 Internal Medicine Residency with Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond, Virginia. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and practices as an Internal Medicine/Family Medicine Clinical Pharmacist at Mercy Hospital St. Louis where she precepts PGY1 residents and students on Acute Care/General Medicine rotation.

Justinne Guyton, Pharm.D., BCACP

Brief Bio : Justinne Guyton, Pharm.D., BCACP is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Dr. Guyton’s practice site is at the St. Louis County Department of Health where she provides clinical pharmacy services for ASCVD risk-reduction, diabetes, hypertension, smoking cessation and chronic anticoagulation through Medication Therapy Services. Dr. Guyton received her Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from Westminster College and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She completed post graduate training accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists at the University of Mississippi Medical Center followed by a second year ambulatory care specialty residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals and Clinics.

Laura Challen, Pharm.D., MBA, BCPS, BCACP
Assistant Professor, Pharmacy Practice, St. Louis College of Pharmacy


Brief Bio : Dr. Laura Challen is a graduate of the University of Texas College of Pharmacy. Since completion of her Pharmacy Practice Residency with an Emphasis in Managed Care at The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2006, Dr. Challen worked at the Harris County Hospital District, in Houston, Texas where she started and managed outpatient clinical pharmacy services. Dr. Challen then moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 2012 and became an assistant professor at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. She spends 50% of her time in the John F. Kennedy Internal Medicine Clinic at Mercy Hospital St. Louis assisting with chronic disease state management, drug information, precepting students, completing research and helping to educate the Internal Medicine Residents in clinic. Dr. Challen spends the rest of her time at the College of Pharmacy coordinating an Integrated Pharmacotherapy Endocrinology course and providing various different lectures throughout the year. Dr. Challen became a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist in 2007, a board certified ambulatory care pharmacist in 2014 and completed her Master’s in Business Administration at the University of Houston in 2010.
